If you are going through a divorce and sharing custody of your children, you have probably heard the term "nest house" and wondered what it actually means for your day to day life.
When parents separate and share custody, there are two basic ways to organize it. Either the children move between two homes, spending time at each parent's place, or the parents are the ones who move, taking turns living in the family home while the children stay put.
That second option, where the children stay in one home and the parents rotate in and out, is what's known as a "nest house." The idea is to give the children stability by keeping them in a familiar place, rather than having them pack up and move every time custody switches.
Historically, when shared custody arrangements first became common in Spain, this was an option that many Family Courts favored.
